Over mother's day weekend, my mom and I enjoyed a short vacation on the bank of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. A wonderful friend of mine was getting married in Norfolk and I invited my mom along for the trip so we could spend mother's day together. I know, I'm an amazing daughter. Sometimes.
Wanting to stay somewhere on the water, without breaking the bank, I opted to check out my favorite app- AirBnb! I found Tina's Place, which was situated right on the Chesapeake bay that included a strip of private beach for those living on that street. That was the biggest perk right there. We didn't need to drive to a beach or HAVE to go to Virginia Beach to lay out and relax, while being crowded by others trying to to the same thing. Instead we got empty beach, unobstructed sunsets on the water, rocks to walk out and sit on during low tide, and a fire pit in the backyard of Tina's place. My mom was thrilled about all of the above.
The actual AirBnb is just a room in someone's home...well...more like a full floor to yourself complete with bathroom, kitchen-type area, bedroom, balcony, and a private entrance. So it barely felt like you were sharing any kind of space with anyone. Tina and her husband Mike were absolutely wonderful and we even got to meet their little grandson as he and Mike joined us for a fire one night. They do have pets and the dog Sammy can be heard tip-tapping around upstairs and barking every once in a while, just so people are aware, but it didn't bother me one bit and was barely noticeable. They also have a cat and cat visitors that come from the house next door to enjoy the shade under their big Adirondack chairs. THEY ARE BOTH ADORABLE AND SWEET. I didn't have my phone to get pictures of the orange kitty cat, but this grey and white one was so floofy. Look at him <3 This was a highlight for me as I have a cat at home and was missing him.
Tina provides so many little bonuses like coffee and coffee maker, Nescafe machine (which for the life of me, I could NOT figure out....looked fancy though!), creamer, fridge, snacks, bottles of water, and a cute little note welcoming us to the house! The bed was a bit hard for me, not bad at first but by the last night my shoulder was hurting. My mom slept like a log every night, with her loud snoring (sorry Tina!) as proof of that, so it must have been perfect for her! The pillows were abundant and nice and poofy like I like them and we enjoyed the view from the bed due to the nice big sliding glass doors, which we only closed the blinds on while we weren't there or sleeping. So nice!
The AirBnb is easy to get to and close to the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, so you can get on the road and across the water nice and fast. It's also a short drive to the airport, Norfolk (where I enjoyed the botanical gardens for my friend's wedding), places to eat or shop at, and not too bad of a drive to Virginia Beach either. Which, even though we didn't need to go to, we still did in order to enjoy breakfast one morning, shopping, and a crush at Waterman's. I requested some places to eat and get a good cup of coffee from, from Tina as I used to live in Hampton VA but rarely ventured to Norfolk, VA Beach, etc. She came through with a whole list of options that were amazing! I wasn't expecting such a detailed list, she really went above and beyond on that.
Overall a great experience and, if you're in the area, I highly recommend stay there! I linked to the AirBnb listing above, but to save you some scrolling you can just click HERE to check it out and make a reservation!
