Two of my favorite things in this world are food and fun- throw Iceland in the mix and I'm even more on board! Unfortunately the trip I just went on did not line up with this year's dates for the festival, which were March 4th-8th, but looking at some of these plates of food, I seriously wish it had! The festival is in it's 19th year
Every year, for the past 19 years, Reykjavik takes a weekend during the off-season months of February and March, to celebrate the country's many high-quality natural products like their abundant variety of fresh seafood, free-range lamb, smooth organic dairy products such as Skyr. Iceland challenges chefs from around the globe, in conjunction with Reykjavik's best restaurants, to create a menu using these local ingredients. Celebrity chef's judge the menus and pick the top three contenders for the Food and Fun Chef of the Year.
Interested in trying some of these dishes? Yeah, me too! In that case you'll need to make a booking with one of the restaurants when the list for 2021 comes out, and set menu prices (from an Icelandair article in 2019) are around 8900 Icelandic Krona, which equals out to around $63 USD. I personally think that's a steal to try world renowned chefs' creations and whole menus? I'd do at least one every day! Plus they offer deals for things to do during your trip if you're participating in the festival, such as 20% off of Fly Over Iceland for example, which was a really enjoyable experience when we did it.
