Good news grilled cheese lovers! Although this festival was originally scheduled to take place this weekend, April 4th-5th, COVID-19 had other plans. Much like the ooey-gooey cheese melted on your toasted bread, the festival has been flexible with this set back and changed the date to June 27-28th! If you already had tickets, you're in luck as they just transfer to the new date. And if you're just finding out about it now, you're also in luck, because you still have time to grab tickets so you have something delicious to look forward to after quarantine.
Held in Southside Park in Sacramento, CA, the Grilled Cheese Festival is 2 days filled with golden cheesy goodness. Saturday is for the adults, sorry kiddos! $65 will get you in at 1pm and keep you munching on desserts and unlimited samples of grilled cheese, drinking delicious craft beers and regional wines, listening to some sweet tunes, playing games like cornhole until 4pm! All of that and a souvenir glass, is included in your admission ticket. No need to worry about bringing cash unless you plan on buying other souvenirs or tipping (no credit cards are accepted in the festival, and there are ATMs on site to take out cash if you forget it and need it). Want to get in an hour earlier? Take advantage of the VIP ticket option for $80 instead and start enjoying all the goodies before the general admission folks get a crack at them!
Sunday is an all-ages extravaganza!! The party goes from 11am to 5pm featuring live music, grilled cheese samples, wine, soda, craft beer, and a kid zone with games, face painting, bounce house, and balloon artists. This ticket works a little differently than Saturday's. Its only $10, but you have to pay for the samples (around$2-3 a sample) and drinks. Make sure to have cash on hand as credit cards are not accepted anywhere at the festival. There is an ATM on the grounds so you can take money out if you forget...or end up needing more. Children 5 and under are free and if you have a group of 8 or more, the tickets are only $8 a pop.
Are you gluten intolerant but still love a good grilled cheese sandwich? No worries my gluten free friends! The Grilled Cheese Festival has options available for you to enjoy during both days of the festival. Hoping that your well-earned dollars are going somewhere good? First of all, cheese is never a bad way to spend that cheddar (hehe) but, this year's proceeds also go to benefit the Positive Coaching Alliance. This non-profit organization helps to build a positive environment for youths in sports that helps build character and informs coaches on how to use sports to teach life lessons. This makes the game a more positive experience as well as more fun for all involved!
