Le Petite Poutine

Le Petit Poutine is a food truck in Rochester, NY slinging the fresh homemade fries, cheese curds, and gravy that make the Canadian dish, Poutine, iconic. But they're not just all about the original, they have their own takes on the dish and serve up fresh baked desserts and homemade sodas.

My best friend, Sami, invited me to check out a local market, the MATA, a couple Saturdays ago (which you can read a bit about here) mainly because Le Petit Poutine was going to be on site and she needed her Poutine fix! We ended up shopping and buying some cool things from local artisans too, but this post is about the food. Yum!

I wound up choosing the pulled pork version over the original because, well, it just sounded delicious and I'd had the traditional before. The pork was tender and a delicious addition to the beef gravy, cheese curds, and taters! Sami picked her personal favorite, the breakfast poutine and we both scooped up a ginger soda to polish off our poutine adventure. the breakfast poutine looked delish, topped with an over easy egg and some bacon. You can't go wrong with bacon. I also snagged a couple lemon bars for my mom and I to enjoy later. They were thick and more cheesecake-like than typical lemon bars are which makes sense considering it says cheesecake right on the sign. I didn't see this when I ordered it so I was surprised to find the bags she handed me to be so hefty! It was a pleasant surprise for sure and my first bite was like a tart, bright, refreshing punch to my taste buds and a silky smooth texture. The ginger soda was NOT like a ginger ale, which Sami warned me about so I thought I would give you all a heads-up too. It was very gingery, but not overwhelmingly so and was a lightly sweet way to balance out the salty nature of the poutine.

But, as you can see, there are other choices if none of what we picked are speaking to you. I've had the lemon-lavender soda before and think its similar to the ginger soda, in that it offers a nice balance of lightly sweet to the salty deliciousness of the poutine. and the lemon makes it extra refreshing. If you like the idea of the breakfast poutine, but just not a fan of the egg, then try out the bacon poutine offered on their menu! Don't want to eat any kind of meat? No problem, Le Petit Poutine's got you covered with their vegetarian version! Lemon bars not really your jam? They also have S'mores Bites (which were sadly unavailable when we went, I don't know if that is permanent or temporary, but either way I was sad) and Cottage Cookies had been added to the menu. These cookies are made with oatmeal, butterscotch and coconut...sounds yummy to me!
