Monday Munchies: Scotch Bonnet

It was unusually warm and rain-free our whole trip in Ireland, so we were able to enjoy the little patio and outside seating offered by Scotch Bonnet. Located a quick 20 minute ride from Dublin City, in a coastal town called Malahide, Scotch Bonnet was the perfect place to put up our feet (figuratively of course) and quiet our hungry bellies.

We had been on the road all morning, driving from Shannon on one side of the country to Dublin on the other where we spent the rest of the day popping into museums, distilleries, breweries, shops, and hopping on the hop-on-hop-off bus to explore the city. By the time we realized how late it was, as so often happened in Ireland for us since the days are incredibly long here, most places were closed or closing very soon. It would be 10 at night with the sun still out and we'd realize we were starving, after all day driving around, only to find a limited number of places open. It was an strange phenomenon for us as we were not used to it at all!

I don't remember the inside very well, as we weren't in it for long, but from what I could tell it would have been almost as enjoyable to eat inside as outside (I'm a big fan of dining al fresco). The seats looked ridiculously comfortable and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We were lucky there was a table outside, as there were only 3 or 4 tables, with all but one taken up. It was perfect! I went for their "award-winning wings" in their traditional buffalo sauce and an order of onion rings.

The wings were crispy, saucy, and tasty, and those onion rings were a meal in themselves! Look at those monsters! They were almost as big as my face. Wowza were they crispy too, ugh I love when my fried foods are crisp, its just so satisfying. I want to say we also go the ribs, I think we shared a bunch of stuff, but I can't recall and apparently this was a trip where I felt no need to photo my food. Either this was before I really started doing that, or I was just too eager to tuck into all of it. I do however remember that everything we had was tasty.

At Scotch Bonnet the food was phenomenal and the service was great, the only thing I am disappointed about is this ---> Look at this small tree of finely crafted drinks! They're stunning. Either this was not available when we went or I completely overlooked it somehow. Now I'm seriously wanting to order this and try them all! So sad I didn't see this, although a crisp cider on a patio, giant onion rings and messy wings in front of me, great friends around me, is certainly a fabulous way to end the day anyway.

When things re-open again please give these guys a try, they're awesome! If you're currently in Ireland and want to go ahead and give em a go, they are open for takeaway orders. You can see their menu here or visit their website here (this is where the photos are from as well, minus the two without the logo in the corner, those are my personal photos) and find more information on their Facebook page here.
