My hometown of Rochester NY is amazing for a lot of reasons, one of the biggest is in its large community of creators and the city's support for them! With summer starting, this means that local creators want to be out in full force. But with our normally abundant festival opportunities down to a minimum, where are they turning to showcase their work? No worries, The MATA and The Lucky Flea are here to fill that gap!
The MATA stands for the Market at the Culver Road Armory, where 15-20 or so booths line the left side of the large brick building. Stop by TRATA (The Restaurant at the Armory) for a snack, meal, or drink before (or after) perusing all the goods! Interested in something different? The Le Petit Poutine food truck is on site to cure any rumbling bellies with their assortment of poutines, daily specials, crafted sodas, and decadent desserts. More about them next week for our Monday Munchies feature! Time to walk off that meal while browsing some merch. You can expect vendors here to have everything from woodworking, jewelry, pottery, paintings, drawings, photography, bath and body products, snacks, drinks, and so much more! I'm not a macaron fan usually, but I purchased a raspberry one from Sweets by Stephanie because they just looked so dang good, along with a cookie that had an edible flower on top. Surprisingly, I liked the macaron more! I'll have to snag some more from her another weekend. I also purchased some handmade soaps from Suds by Sasha and my friend Sami purchased some pottery (including a friend mug for meeeee) from Hand Thrown by Alyssa and a necklace from Collectively Gray that's really cute.
The MATA is located at:
145 Culver Rd Rochester NY 14620
Every Saturday in summer from 10-4pm
The Lucky Flea is held on Sundays, so you can hit up the MATA and The Lucky Flea all in one weekend although the vendors aren't always the same, so you'd better check both out any weekends you can during summer. Located in downtown Rochester, this market has you covered on "local vintage curators, artists, and crafters" although not all of the vendors seems to be vintage-inspired. I will admit that I haven't been to this yet, mainly because, based on their Instagram posts, there are so many businesses that I want to buy from that I need to set aside some money for a serious shopping spree. They are dog friendly, have over 60 local vendors, a wide range of goods, and local food vendors serving up brunch, lunch, snacks, and drinks. These include Fuego Coffee Roasters (such good coffee), Voula's Greek Sweets (which you may remember that I did a Monday Munchies feature on), The Dainty Doughnut Factory (which I haven't heard of until today- going on my ever growing list of local spots to try!), Katboocha, and more! This sounds like a super great way to spend part of a morning or afternoon and I can't wait to get myself over there and check it out!
You can visit The Lucky Flea at:
50 Anderson Ave Rochester, NY 14607
Every Sunday in summer from 10-3pm
