Put on your shimmy shammy (not the technical word), loosen those hips, and get ready to move that body! Goddess hour will have you feeling like a goddess with one of the many classes that they offer. Michelle Charles makes belly dancing accessible to women of all types in a fitness activity that is fun, challenging, and will bring out your inner goddess. She is the co-director of the Sahara Shimmer Dance Ensemble for many years, performing for Middle Eastern and International parties alongside some of the finest Arabic Ensembles. Michelle has also advocated for belly dancing as a fitness alternative at the 2007 national Speaking of Women's Health conference and has been running, and teaching at, Goddess Hour for 18 years.
I took the level 1 belly dance class for beginners twice, both finished with a fun, choreographed routine at the end of the 8 weeks to great music. It made me feel confident, sexy, slim, and happy. Michelle is a great teacher, exuberant and passionate about what she does and makes everyone in the class feel comfortable and confident as well. She knows how to teach in a way that is easy to follow, without being condescending or anything, and makes you laugh along the way. I also took a pole dancing class here with another instructor years ago and they used to offer hula hoop dance classes, but it seems that Michelle works on her own now and only offers the belly dancing. I may be wrong about that, but those are the only classes on her schedule or descriptions now.
If you ever wanted to try belly dancing out, put your trust in Michelle's capable hands and hips. Classes are 8 weeks long and cost $78, with the exception of the performance class that's $30 a month and you perform a routine at different venues in the area. Head on over to Goddess Hour where "real women have curves...Goddesses know how to move them."
