Have you seen Tiffany Haddish's name everywhere lately or heard her unique voice?? Well, there's good reason for that, the woman is a comedy powerhouse and people are taking notice. She has been a comedian all her life, using it to cope with stressful situations and to make others around her laugh. I first heard her signature voice while watching a real wonky, in a good way, show called Tuca and Bertie. Pretty soon I was noticing her in tons of places, she was just popping up everywhere! 1. Haddish had a struggle of a childhood; her father left when she only three years old, at age 9 her mother was in a car accident that completely changed her personality to someone who was violent and mean, because of the brain damage her mother suffered Haddish had to step up and be the main caregiver to her younger siblings, at 12 years old her and her siblings were separated and put into foster care, and finally at 15 they were reunited under the care of their grandmother. She's also been homeless a few times as an adult, living out of her car
2.At 17 years old, her social worker gave her an ultimatum. Haddish needed to either seek psychiatric help or to enroll in the Laugh Factory Comedy Camp...I'll let you guess which one she did. Using comedy as an outlet and a safe space to talk about her past really helped Haddish work through her issues and it may have even saved her life.
3. 2017 was the year of Tiffany Haddish, suddenly her career really took off, following the success of her blockbuster hit Girl's Trip where she starred alongside big names in the industry- Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall, and Queen Latifah. It was the highest grossing comedy film of that year and Haddish's jumping off point. In the same year she also had her own comey special on Showtime (Tiffany Haddish: She Ready! From the Hood to Hollywood) and was the first African-American female stand-up comedian to host Saturday Night Live.
4. In 2017 she also appeared on The Root's list of most influential African Americans, taking the 23rd spot on the list.
5. For her 40th birthday, in 2019, she got back in touch with her Jewish roots (she comes from an Eritrean Jewish family) and had a formal Bat Mitzvah
6. 2019 is the year she was EVERYWHERE. Appearing in films like, Lego Movie 2: the Second Part, Angry Birds Movie 2, Secret Life of Pets 2, The Kitchen, Between Two Ferns: the Movie, Bob's Burgers, Kevin Hart's Guide to Black History, Tuca and Bertie (also has a producers credit on this project), new host for Kids Say the Darndest Things, and Crank Yankers.
7. Following a riveting story about her and the Smith's using Groupon to explore a New Orleans Swamp, Groupon took her on as their spokeswoman for a bit.
8. She has always struggled with reading, but still released a memoir called, The Last Black Unicorn in 2017. The name comes from what she used to get called as a youngster, due to a wart on her forehead.
9. In 2018 she starred alongside Kevin Hart in Nightschool and also appeared in Drunk History, and sesame street.
10. Before she took off, she appeared as a guest on Chelsea Lately, That's so Raven, My Name is Earl, New Girl, Def Comedy Jam, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Reality Bites Back.
11. Due to her amazing performance on SNL, Haddish won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.
12. Oprah helped her get her start, casting her in a role on, If Loving You is Wrong in 2014
13. Left If Loving You is Wrong for a regular role on The Carmichael Show, where she stayed for its three seasons.
